BRIEF HISTORY
If Being a major and effective party to the
generation-creating process, Kuwaiti women have always maintained
a special position in the community. They perform a significant
role in the framework of family, as they constitute the basic
texture of the society. In order to enhance the frameworks of
cooperation and communication between the Kuwaiti women and their
Arab and international counterparts, the Council of Ministers, at
its meeting No. 37/2001, held on 14 October 2001, issued a
resolution approving State of Kuwait's participation in the
Exceptional Arab Women Conference held in Cairo during November
2001. Kuwait's delegation to the conference was presided over by Sheikha Lateefa Al-Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Spouse of HH The
Deputy Amir and Crown Prince.
On 30 June 2002, the Council of Ministers, at its meeting No.
24/2002, issued the resolution No. 634 approving – in principle –
the establishment of Women Affairs Committee. In July 2003, the
committee's administrative organization was issued. Thus, the
institutional structure of the committee had been set for
proceeding on its expansive activity, and had become ready to
achieve the committee's objectives.
