CONSTITUTION
The constitution of the State of Kuwait is the
basic legislation that sets out the principles and rules
organizing the social, economic and political life, to be observed
by individuals and community. Such principles and rules should
necessarily reflect on the work strategies and systems in the
various official institutions. Individuals or non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) may not violate such principles or rules.
Scrutinizing the constitution of the State of Kuwait, it is noted
that all its articles affect, directly or indirectly, the affairs
of women, family and children. The constitution provided for the
rights of Kuwaiti citizen without discrimination based on sex
(Articles 29, 30, 35, 37 and 40). The constitution guarantees the
women's right of political participation under the public
principles of the state system (Articles 6, 7, 29 and 80). Women
enjoy equal opportunities in education, selection of work type,
candidacy and voting in all non-governmental organizations,
freedom of practicing business, vocational and social activities
without discrimination, all within the set up legislation. Based
on this, the establishment of the Women Affairs Committee confirms
the gains attained by the Kuwaiti women, as well as the
constitutional and legislative honoring they enjoy in the various
aspects of organizing the living of women, family and children.
